What is R&D?
Research and Development (R&D) group is a special group under APUGDC that is open to all members of APUGDC. The R&D team focuses on researching and innovating things related to game development regardless of whether it is art, programming, design or sound engineering.We want to bring the hidden talents and passion in game dev among the APUGDC members and do meaningful stuff together. We want to help YOU kick start your journey in becoming a better game developer.Join the R&D group now to collaborate in projects with other like-minded people. Does not matter what is your skills, your background, or your course. The only thing that matters is your passion in game development.Do note that R&D members are not committee members of APUGDC and the committees that join the group will be treated the same like the other R&D members.We do not control, supervise, moderate or own your projects. All rights are to your team. We serve only to motivate, guide and help you in your research.
Mission of R&D
We created APU Game Development Club because we provide a platform for APU students to learn game dev and connect with other like-minded APU game dev students. This is why R&D is created because we want to help people who are passionate in game dev and want to work on meaningful projects. We want to empower our APUGDC members to learn, grow and improve themselves in game dev.The mission of R&D:- To provide a platform and environment for APUGDC member to collaborate in researching and expanding their creativity in the field of Game Development

What do we provide to help you learn and work on projects?
A space and environment for you to collaborateWe provide APU classroom on every Friday night for the R&D members to collaborate and work on projects togetherProviding guidance and simplify finding people to collaborateNot sure how and where to get started? Want to find people to collaborate with? Leave these to us and focus on improving yourself. Let us handle the hassling part.Providing a platform to showcase your hardworkAPUGDC will provide a platform for you to showcase your project/research in an event. Let us settle hosting the event and you focus on your project.Access special chat channel dedicated for R&D membersYou will be given custom discord roles that allow you to access special chat channels dedicated for the R&D Members. You will also be added into a special Whatsapp group.This is so that you are able to easily find projects and members to work and collaborate with.Special discount on APUGDC EventsGet special discount on APUGDC’s events and improve yourself to work on your project.
Future Plans for R&D
Access to buy special merch in the futureIn the near future, you will be able to purchase special R&D Member specific merch such as shirt and lanyard in the future.Submission of projects to various competitions and researchWe hope to allow our R&D members to participate and submit their projects and research to various competitions and research in the field of game dev.
What is R&D Member and Project Leader
R&D Member
R&D Member are members of the R&D. R&D members can work on one or more projects. The member can also start their own project of any difficulty, topic, length and scope. So long as the project does not contain explicit content and abide by the law.To be a R&D member, one needs to be an APUGDC member. To stay active as an R&D Member, one needs to be working on a project. If after 6 months of not working in a project, the member will be demoted to inactive and lose access to the R&D special privileges.
R&D Project Leader
R&D Member can start their own project and become the project leader. The project leader needs to be responsible for the project they started and work on the project alongside their members. They also need to report on their progress every end of the month.

Member Related
1. Do I have to be a game dev student to join R&DNo. Students from any course is welcome to join and work on projects.2. Do I have to be good in game devNot necessarily as it will depend on the project you want to join. But most importantly is your motivation, effort and drive to improve yourself.
Project Related
1. What can the project be about?Anything as long as its related to game development.You can do stuff such as (not limited to):Programming project such as tools, systems, and mechanics.Art project such as modeling, concept art, environment modeling, and game VFX.Sound Design project such as creating game music, game sound effects or principles of sound designGame Design project such as analyzing game, breaking down game mechanics, or principles of game design.Creating Game project such as creating a whole new game.2. Do we have to report to APUGDC on our progress?We do not control or supervise your project. However, we want to motivate and help you. Therefore, at the end of every month, the team leader needs to have a quick summary update on the project progress. This is so we know that you guys are having progress and are not stuck somewhere. Don’t worry, we do not rush you and its okay if you guys have minimal progress. We are not here to control and police you.3. What is the minimum and maximum expected duration for a project?Between 1 month to 3 months maximum. We recommend starting of with a short duration scope for the project if this is your first time.4. We have an AFK team member, what do I do?Do try to work with the person and confront him. Otherwise, notify our HR about it. You can also withdraw said person from the team given a valid reason.5. Must the project be very innovative or something new?We will recommend for you to bring something new to the topic of the project. However, it is your project and it should be decided by you. It is also fine if you decide to just recreate an existing mechanic/system/model/concept in an effort to learn about said topic.6. Do I have to adhere to the project deadline?It is recommended to try to complete your project by said deadline. However, we are all students and understand that it is not easy to research and work on a project while having assignments and studies. Contact our HR should you have to change anything about your project expected end date and if you have any problems.7. What happens after I finish a project?When you finish a project, we strongly recommend and will encourage you to showcase your findings or your result. We will also help create an event (talk/showcase/workshop) for you to share your findings/results/lessons of your project.8. Can I bring my project out from R&DThe project you work on belongs to you and your team. We do not restrict or own any rights to your project

5. Await news from Project Leader/HR for interview
6. If fail enter project, refill form selecting other project
Existing Member Join Project
1. Checks for available projects that are seeking member
2. Message Project Leader
3. Once project leader approved of member joining the project, project leader is to inform HR
4. Work on project
